Life and Tradition

These two words are very significant to understand the vine-growing in Lanzarote.

People´s tenacity and endeavour worked together to achieve the growth of life in the most adverse conditions. The existence of a black layer of volcanic ash which covers the land and prevents the loss of the little humidity of the soil, is the main characteristic. Its depth ranges between 30 cm and 5 m.

The holes in the volcanic ash, in the lava and the shelter provided by the stones, protect the vine which the peasant look after carefully. Only his hands keep alive this huge natural garden.

The "Malvasía" vine, unique variety all around the world and perfectly adapted to this hostile environment, provides quality and uniqueness to the wines from Lanzarote.

The vineyards grow in four distinguished areas: Masdache, La Geria, Tinajo and Haría-Ye.
